RNSG 2120 Mental Health Nursing Concepts
Mental Health Nursing Concepts is designed to prepare the student to care for individuals with alterations in their mental health. Emphasis is placed on the role of the registered nurse in the assessment of the patient's psychological needs, the provision of health promotion and disease prevention, the establishment of therapeutic, caring relationships, and the provision of evidenced-based, holistic, safe care. Topics will include, but are not limited to: anxiety, depression, addiction, schizophrenia, and dementia. Psychopharmacology, behavioral and cognitive therapies, and other treatment modalities will be integrated throughout the course. Students will care for patients from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds with mental health alterations in a variety of acute care and community settings.
