Program Description: The Surgical Technology Program is a specialized training program that provides the student with the knowledge and skills to become a competent surgical technologist in the modern surgical technology profession. The goal is to prepare competent entry-level surgical technologist in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. A clinical rotation at a hospital is a vital part of the education experience.

Graduates are prepared to function as an integral part of the team of medical practitioners that provide surgical care to patients in a variety of settings. They work under medical supervision to facilitate safe and effective surgical procedures. Duties of the surgical technologist may be performed in operating rooms, ambulatory surgical centers, central supply, labor and delivery area, cardiac catheterization laboratories, private physicians’ offices, organ procurement organizations, and other areas where invasive procedures are performed. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

Program Length: A full-time student who has successfully completed all pre-requisite courses with a grade of “C” or better and who has been admitted into the Surgical Technology program can complete the program in three semesters.  

Admission Requirements:  Students must meet all admission requirements of the college and have reached the age of 18. Admission into the Surgical Technology program is competitive and the program does not maintain a waiting list.  Please consult the Surgical Technology webpage on the college's website for specific pre-requisite and program admission information.
