Program Purpose: The Emergency Medical Technician certificate program prepares students to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Emergency Medical Technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system. Successful completion of the program allows the graduate to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT certification examination and apply for Georgia licensure as an EMT. 
Program Length: The EMT courses can be completed in 15 weeks. This program can be taken as a stand-alone certificate or it can be taken as part of the EMS Professions Diploma.
Admission Requirements: Students must meet all admission requirements of the college and have reached the age of 18 by the start of clinicals. Students must enroll in the college’s EMSP Diploma Program and attend a mandatory information/application session. Admission will close once the courses are at full capacity. The program does not maintain a waiting list. Please consult the appropriate Academic program on the college’s website for specific program admission information.
