THEA 1101 Theater Appreciation

Explores history, aesthetics, and craft of the theatrical experience on stage, emphasizing the role of the audience as well as that of the artist. Critical views of theatrical performances are examined alongside scripts.  Emphasis is placed on the students’ understanding of foundational elements, principles, and theories of dramatic art, including classical and contemporary varieties.  The performance component of this course enables students to appreciate the process by which theater is realized and the creative and cultural significance of theater as a basic human endeavor.
