Technical Studies Associate of Applied Science Degree

The Technical Studies Associate Degree program is designed to prepare students for employment in a variety of positions in today's technical industry fields. This program offers students learning opportunities that develop higher level academic skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. It is specifically open to two groups of students: 1) students who have already completed another approved technical or industrial program of study and who wish to complete an Associate Degree, and 2) students seeking admissions into the Aviation Maintenance Programs.
The program emphasizes technical studies theory and practical applications necessary for successful employment, as well as Associate Degree General Education courses. Program graduates receive an Associate of Applied Science degree in Technical Studies and will be qualified for employment as technicians.
Students may be allowed to enter the Aviation Maintenance Track if they've applied for admission into the Aviation Maintenance Programs.
Students may be allowed to enter the Technical Studies Track if they've received a credential in one of the following programs:
Aircraft Structural Technology, Air Conditioning Technology, Avionics, Carpentry, Cosmetology, Diesel Equipment Technology, and Welding and Joining Technology.

Degree Requirements
GENERAL EDUCATION CORE
Required Minimum: 15 Semester Credit Hours
General Education Core Area I Language Arts/Communication - 3 Credit Hours
Successful completion of ENGL 1101 Composition and Rhetoric is required
Other Area I courses include:
General Education Core Area II Social/Behavioral Sciences - 3 Credit Hours

To meet the minimum required 15 semester credit hours in General Core courses an additional 3 semester credit hours must be selected from a course in Area I, Area II, Area III, or Area IV. Science courses in BIOL, CHEM, and PHYS may also satisfy this requirement.

Aviation Maintenance Track
Completion of 33 credits. A variety of technical certificates are available. Please see an advisor to discuss options.
The following certificates are recommended for preparation for the aviation maintenance program (pending FAA approval):
Avionics Bench Technician
Aircraft Assembly Technician
Automotive Electrical/Electronic Systems Technician
Diesel Electrical/Electronic Systems Technician
Basic Shielded Metal Arc Welder
Industrial Electrician
Air Conditioning Electrical Technician
Choose 12 additional occupational credits from one of the following areas:
COMP, UAST, MCHT, WELD, IDSY, AIRC, DIET, AUTT, ASTT
