Assessment

Assessment Requirement: Chattahoochee Technical College requires all applicants to submit appropriate test scores or transfer college credits to determine program readiness.

To serve this purpose, the ACCUPLACER test evaluates skills in reading, writing and math. The ACCUPLACER test is proctored and is available by appointment or during posted assessment hours. Each campus that offers ACCUPLACER testing has a monthly schedule posted on the Placement Testing page of the Admissions website. In lieu of ACCUPLACER scores, applicants may submit official SAT, ACT, COMPASS or ASSET scores, provided these scores are no more than 60 months old prior to the first day of the term for which they applied. Additionally, English and Math scores from the General Education Development (GED) Test may be used in place of the ACCUPLACER assessment. Or, students with appropriate transfer credits in English and math from an acceptably accredited college may use those credits in lieu of taking ACCUPLACER.

If an applicant’s SAT or ACT scores or transfer credits do not meet the college’s minimum program requirements for entry, he or she must take the ACCUPLACER test. The ACCUPLACER scores indicate areas of strength and areas requiring remediation. If scores are not high enough for placement directly into the program of study, Learning Support coursework is required. In the instance that ACCUPLACER scores do not satisfy the minimum requirements for Learning Support coursework, additional steps must be taken by the applicant before acceptance.

Purpose for Assessment: Scores are used to determine a student's readiness for college-level general core courses for a given program of study. Each program of study has its own score requirements. In general, diploma programs have higher score requirements than certificate programs, and Associate of Applied Science degree programs are typically higher than diploma programs.

In the event a student's scores are not above the threshold for the program of study chosen, Chattahoochee Technical College provides Learning Support courses in English, math, and reading. Satisfactory completion of the indicated Learning Support is then required - along with re-assessment to reach the scores necessary for the given program of study. In the instance that ACCUPLACER scores do not satisfy the minimum requirements for Learning Support coursework, additional steps must be taken by the applicant before acceptance.
